So what's it all about?

Bouldering is climbing with out the use of ropes and other equipment on boulders or low cliffs of a thecube, bonehillheight that you would be comfortable to fall from on to a mat.

It is a very free form of climbing only requiring a minimum amount of kit. The southwest is home to a large amount of bouldering mainly located on the tors of Dartmoor and even some in the city limits of Plymouth!

Bouldering can be fun for beginners and is often used by established climbers to increase their technical skills and strength.

There is indoor bouldering available in Plymouth at Stoke Damerel and Lipson community college (see climbing page for opening times). There is also an amazing indoor boulder close to Launceston owned and run by local climber Simon Young. This is a must see venue and very ‘fontainesque’ (world class bouldering sandstone venue in France called Fontainebleau).

We enter a couple of teams in to the BUCS bouldering championships, giving some of our members the chance to compete against climbers from around the country. We will be holding a series of competions and training days to select the teams for this year.
